What This Agent Does

The Product Requirements Agent helps Product Managers transform Product Capabilities and available product knowledge into a structured set of clear, traceable and verifiable Product Requirements.

What You Can Provide

You can provide:

  • Product Capabilities
  • Jobs-to-be-Done
  • User Activities
  • Desired User Experience
  • Customer Insights and needs
  • existing requirements or specifications
  • product strategy and positioning
  • technical documentation
  • regulatory, safety or sustainability constraints
  • target cost, price or business objectives
  • information about existing products or platforms
  • requirements from previous product generations

The Agent can also analyse heterogeneous source material and identify information that may need to be converted into requirements.

How the Agent Works

The Agent starts from Product Capabilities and their underlying customer and product knowledge.

For each capability, it identifies the requirements needed to make that capability effective.

It then:

  • generates candidate Product Requirements
  • separates requirements from features and design solutions
  • formulates requirements clearly and unambiguously
  • separates requirements that contain multiple expectations
  • proposes measurable targets when supported by available evidence
  • avoids inventing numerical targets when information is insufficient
  • identifies possible verification methods
  • highlights assumptions, missing information and requirements still to be defined
  • detects duplicates, overlaps and potential inconsistencies
  • links each requirement to the Product Capability or other knowledge from which it originated

Whenever appropriate, it uses a consistent formulation such as:

The product shall [required outcome or behaviour] [under relevant conditions].

The Agent therefore helps maintain the traceable chain:

JTBD → User Activity → Desired User Experience → Product Capability → Product Requirement

Human Validation

Requirements generated by the Agent must be reviewed and validated by the appropriate human experts before becoming part of the official product definition.

Human validation should confirm that each requirement:

  • is genuinely necessary
  • correctly reflects the originating Product Capability and customer value
  • is sufficiently clear and unambiguous
  • does not prematurely prescribe a solution
  • uses meaningful and justified targets
  • can be verified where appropriate
  • is consistent with technical, business, regulatory and safety constraints
  • needs to be defined at the proposed stage of development

Product Managers, engineering, design and other relevant specialists should also decide which requirements can deliberately remain open and be refined through prototypes, testing and development.

The Agent helps structure, challenge and maintain the requirements. Humans decide what the product must ultimately deliver.
