European Product Management Association

1. Nature of EuPMA

EuPMA – European Product Management Association is an independent, primarily virtual European professional community dedicated to Product Management and to the disciplines related to the definition, development, management and evolution of products and services.

EuPMA operates as a professional community rather than as an autonomous legal entity.

EuPMA does not directly sell professional services, issue invoices or enter into commercial contracts with members, companies or third parties.

Any professional or commercial activity arising within the EuPMA network is carried out independently by the professionals or organisations involved.

Participation in EuPMA does not create any employment, agency, representation, partnership or corporate relationship between EuPMA and its members.

2. Mission

EuPMA’s mission is to contribute to the evolution of Product Management in Europe by creating an environment where professionals, companies, educators and experts can connect, share knowledge, exchange experiences and develop better ways of managing products in an increasingly complex world.

EuPMA promotes:

  • knowledge sharing and dissemination;
  • collaboration between Product Managers and companies;
  • exchange between different industries, disciplines and professional backgrounds;
  • development and dissemination of methodologies, tools and best practices;
  • experimentation with new Product Management approaches;
  • professional development of Product Managers;
  • dialogue between industry, academia, consulting and professional practice;
  • responsible product development;
  • stronger connections within the European Product Management community.

EuPMA considers Product Management a discipline that should create sustainable value for customers, users, companies and society.

3. Our Principles

Knowledge Sharing

Knowledge grows when people openly share experiences, methods, successes and failures.

Collaboration

EuPMA encourages constructive collaboration and professional relationships based on trust, openness and mutual respect.

Cross-Pollination

Innovation often comes from connecting different industries, disciplines and experiences. EuPMA actively promotes this exchange of perspectives.

Independence

The community maintains its independence from the commercial interests of individual members, companies and organisations.

Professional Quality

EuPMA initiatives aim to provide practical, relevant and high-quality knowledge that professionals can apply in real situations.

Experimentation

In complex environments, progress requires experimentation. EuPMA encourages simulation, testing and learning through experience.

Responsible Product Development

Product decisions should consider not only financial results but also their impact on customers, users, society and the environment.

Plurality

EuPMA welcomes different approaches, industries, cultures and schools of thought, encouraging constructive discussion rather than promoting a single Product Management methodology.

4. Membership

EuPMA membership is open to people professionally involved in, or actively pursuing, Product Management and product development.

Members may include:

  • Product Managers and Product Management professionals;
  • Product Owners;
  • Product, Innovation, R&D and Product Development Managers;
  • UX, Service and Product Designers;
  • Marketing and Business Development professionals involved in products;
  • Project Managers working on new product development;
  • engineers and technical professionals involved in product definition and development;
  • consultants, educators and researchers;
  • aspiring Product Managers;
  • students and professionals transitioning towards Product Management.

Membership may require sufficient professional information to identify the applicant and assess their connection with the purpose of the community.

EuPMA membership is free of charge.

5. Members’ Commitments

By joining EuPMA, members agree to:

  • respect other members and different professional perspectives;
  • contribute to an open and constructive professional environment;
  • share knowledge and experience whenever possible;
  • behave according to accepted professional and ethical standards;
  • avoid discriminatory, offensive or inappropriate behaviour;
  • avoid using EuPMA solely as a commercial promotion channel;
  • respect the rules governing the EuPMA name, logo and trademark;
  • not present EuPMA membership as a professional certification;
  • avoid any behaviour that could damage the reputation or independence of the community.

EuPMA may suspend or withdraw membership when a member seriously breaches these principles.

6. Free Knowledge Sharing

Knowledge sharing is at the heart of EuPMA.

Within the limits of available resources, EuPMA aims to provide free access to activities and resources such as:

  • articles and professional content;
  • best practices;
  • tools and frameworks;
  • Action Cards;
  • community meetings;
  • working groups;
  • peer-to-peer exchange;
  • professional discussions;
  • selected masterclasses and events;
  • collaborative knowledge-development initiatives.

The principle of free knowledge sharing does not mean that every professional activity involving EuPMA members must be provided free of charge.

7. Professional Activities

Members, Faculty members, educators, consultants and other professionals within the EuPMA network may independently offer paid professional activities.

These may include:

  • training;
  • masterclasses;
  • workshops;
  • laboratories;
  • Product Challenges;
  • facilitation;
  • consulting;
  • coaching;
  • research;
  • product development support;
  • company-specific programmes.

These activities remain legally, financially and professionally independent from EuPMA.

The professional or organisation delivering the activity:

  • defines the offer;
  • sets the commercial conditions;
  • enters directly into an agreement with the customer;
  • invoices the customer directly;
  • remains responsible for delivery, quality, contractual obligations, taxation and professional liability.

EuPMA is not a party to these contracts unless explicitly stated otherwise.

8. EuPMA Approved Activities

Professional activities may be authorised to use the EuPMA brand when they have been reviewed and approved according to EuPMA quality standards.

Approved initiatives may use designations such as:

EuPMA Approved Lab
EuPMA Approved Masterclass
EuPMA Approved Program

Approval indicates that the initiative has been reviewed for its relevance, methodological quality and consistency with EuPMA principles.

It does not mean that EuPMA is the contractual provider of the service.

Every approved activity must clearly identify the professional or organisation responsible for its delivery and invoicing.

EuPMA shall in no case be responsible or liable for the delivery, execution, results, contractual obligations, professional conduct or any other aspect of an approved activity, which is carried out independently and under the sole responsibility of the member, professional or organisation delivering it.

Approval and permission to use the EuPMA brand may be time-limited and may be suspended or withdrawn if the required standards are no longer met.

9. EuPMA Quality Committee

EuPMA may establish a Quality Committee responsible for reviewing activities that request approval to use the EuPMA brand.

The Committee may consider criteria including:

  • relevance to Product Management;
  • quality and originality of the content;
  • methodological soundness;
  • experience of the professionals involved;
  • clarity of objectives and expected outcomes;
  • practical applicability;
  • value for participants;
  • transparency of communication;
  • consistency with EuPMA principles;
  • participant feedback from previous editions, when available.

More detailed requirements may be defined through specific EuPMA Brand and Quality Guidelines.

A person who has a direct professional or financial interest in an activity under review shall not participate in the related approval decision.

Approval of an activity does not imply any obligation for EuPMA to promote, publish or otherwise communicate the activity through its website, newsletter, social media or other channels. EuPMA retains full discretion over the activities it chooses to feature or promote.

EuPMA may decline to approve or promote an activity when it considers that the activity is not sufficiently aligned with its mission, values, quality standards or current priorities.

10. EuPMA Faculty

The EuPMA Faculty brings together experienced practitioners, educators, consultants and experts who contribute to the development and dissemination of Product Management knowledge.

Faculty members may contribute through:

  • development of content and best practices;
  • methodologies and tools;
  • masterclasses;
  • laboratories and Product Challenges;
  • working groups;
  • research;
  • discussions with the community;
  • development and review of professional practices.

Membership of the Faculty does not create an employment or contractual relationship with EuPMA.

Faculty members may independently carry out paid professional activities.

Any use of the EuPMA brand in connection with such activities is subject to EuPMA approval and Brand Guidelines.

11. Faculty Director

The EuPMA Faculty is coordinated by a Faculty Director.

The Faculty Director is responsible for:

  • safeguarding the EuPMA mission and principles;
  • helping ensure that this Charter is respected;
  • coordinating the development and activities of the Faculty;
  • select the Faculty members;
  • promoting appropriate quality standards;
  • ensuring consistency between Faculty initiatives and EuPMA governance;
  • monitoring appropriate use of the EuPMA name and brand;
  • identifying potential conflicts with EuPMA principles or governance rules;
  • acting as a reference point for governance matters related to the Faculty and EuPMA activities.

The Faculty Director has a governance, coordination and safeguarding role.

The role does not replace the responsibilities assigned to the Advisory Board, Quality Committee or other EuPMA governance bodies.

The Faculty Director is appointed from Open Innovation, the organisation responsible for the ownership and protection of the EuPMA trademark.

Whenever the Faculty Director, Open Innovation or a related party has a direct professional or financial interest in a matter under consideration, that interest must be disclosed and the Faculty Director shall not participate in the related approval decision.

12. Advisory Board

EuPMA may establish an Advisory Board composed of a limited number of senior Product Leaders, practitioners, educators, experts and representatives from industry and academia.

The Advisory Board has a strategic and consultative role rather than an operational role.

Its purpose is to help EuPMA:

  • understand how Product Management is evolving;
  • identify emerging challenges and competencies;
  • define strategic priorities;
  • shape future initiatives;
  • connect professional practice, industry and academia;
  • maintain high levels of relevance and quality;
  • develop a genuinely European and multidisciplinary perspective.

The Advisory Board provides recommendations but does not assume administrative, financial or contractual responsibility for EuPMA activities.

Members are invited based on their experience, complementary perspectives and potential contribution to the EuPMA mission.

  • LinkedIn;

  • personal websites;
  • email signatures;

  • other professional communication channels.

Different badges may be provided for Members, Contributors, Faculty Members, Advisory Board Members and other recognised roles.

EuPMA may maintain a public Member Directory or other verification mechanisms.

A EuPMA badge confirms participation in the community or a recognised role. It does not independently certify the professional competence of its holder.

16. Working Groups

EuPMA may establish temporary or permanent Working Groups focused on specific Product Management challenges or emerging topics.

Working Groups may involve:

  • EuPMA Members;
  • Faculty Members;
  • companies;
  • universities;
  • external experts.

Their purpose is to combine different experiences, develop new knowledge, explore emerging topics and produce outcomes that can benefit the broader Product Management community.

Whenever possible, the knowledge generated through Working Groups should be shared with the wider community, while respecting intellectual property and confidentiality requirements.

EuPMA creates opportunities for meaningful professional connections between:

  • Product Managers;
  • Product Leaders;
  • educators;
  • consultants;
  • experts;
  • companies;
  • universities;
  • organisations involved in product development.

EuPMA facilitates connections but does not act as a commercial intermediary.

Any professional or commercial relationship that develops between members, companies or other parties remains a direct relationship between those parties.

EuPMA is not responsible for independently negotiated professional or commercial agreements.

18. Independence and Conflicts of Interest

People involved in EuPMA governance are expected to act in support of the community’s mission.

Relevant conflicts of interest must be disclosed.

No position within EuPMA, including Faculty, Advisory Board, Quality Committee or other governance roles, may be used to obtain improper commercial advantage.

Whenever a person involved in an evaluation or decision has a direct professional or financial interest in the matter being considered, that person shall not participate in the relevant decision.

19. EuPMA Name, Logo and Trademark

The EuPMA name, logo and other distinctive signs identify the community and its activities.

Ownership and protection of the EuPMA – European Product Management Association trademark are held by Open Innovation.

Open Innovation is responsible for protecting the trademark and formally authorising its use in accordance with EuPMA governance and Brand Guidelines.

Ownership of the trademark does not give Open Innovation the right to use EuPMA solely or primarily as a means of promoting its own commercial activities.

Use of the EuPMA name or trademark by members, companies, Faculty members or other organisations is subject to the applicable Brand Guidelines and, where required, specific authorisation.

20. Independence from Open Innovation

Although Open Innovation owns and protects the EuPMA trademark, EuPMA operates as an independent professional community.

Decisions concerning:

  • membership;
  • knowledge sharing;
  • content;
  • Faculty;
  • Advisory Board;
  • Working Groups;
  • quality standards;
  • approval of initiatives;

are taken according to EuPMA governance and should not be directed towards generating an exclusive commercial advantage for Open Innovation.

This separation is intended to protect the credibility, plurality and independence of the community.

21. Intellectual Property and Knowledge

Contributors retain ownership of the intellectual property they create unless otherwise agreed.

Publishing or sharing material through EuPMA provides only the permissions necessary for its agreed use and dissemination.

EuPMA encourages approaches that facilitate knowledge sharing and reuse where appropriate.

Material developed collaboratively may be subject to specific rules established for the relevant Working Group, project or initiative.

22. Confidentiality

EuPMA respects the confidentiality of information shared by members, companies and other participants.

Confidential business information, data, cases or non-public materials may not be disclosed without appropriate permission.

Participation in EuPMA activities does not automatically grant permission to disclose information shared by other participants.

23. Evolution of EuPMA

EuPMA is designed as an evolving community.

Its structure, roles, governance mechanisms and this Charter may evolve as the community grows and new needs emerge.

Significant changes should be communicated transparently to members.

If the future scale or activities of EuPMA make it appropriate, the community may consider establishing an autonomous legal entity.

24. Our Commitment

EuPMA is founded on a simple belief:

Product Management evolves faster when people share knowledge, compare experiences, challenge established practices and learn from one another.

EuPMA aims to create a European environment where Product Managers, companies, educators and experts can:

Connect. Share. Experiment. Create.

and contribute together to better products, stronger organisations and the continued evolution of Product Management.
